Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow

History

It is very difficult to be both a good console game and a good PC game. Maui Mallard spent some time as a console title. It is interesting to note that you cannot find Maui Mallard on the Disney Interactive Web Site.

Company Line

Game Play

The game has 23 stages of game play. The game play is typical 16-bit platform arcade game. Our heroic fowl must hop, climb, shoot, fight and teleport through a looney luau. The game play is not the thing here.

Plot

Maui must get through the luau. Along the way he finds ying and yang coins that convert him to the Cold Shadow, ninja warrior. The Cold Shadow has different skills than Maui, which allow Maui to advance to the next level.

Graphics

The graphics are top notch Disney two dimensional drawn animations and backgrounds. The hand rendered (drawn) art is refreshing when compared to stock 3D studio fare.

Animation

The animation is smooth well detailed and excellent. The characterization of the Mallard is wonderful, easily the best part of the product. Disney is known for adding personality to their characters and the Mallard is a true Disney character in this area. Maui is cute.

Sound Effects

Eight-bit sound pervades the game and is as out of date as the gameplay.
