ACTIVISION BLASTS BARRAGE FULL THROTTLE INTO NORTH AMERICAN RETAIL STORES WEEK OF OCTOBER 5

Real-Time 3D Shooter Barrage Hurls Adrenaline Rush of Arcade Action onto PC

Activision Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) will allow gamers to bring the adrenaline rush of arcade action home when Barrage, a real-time 3D action shooter for the PC, soars into retail outlets throughout the United States and Canada the week of October 5, 1998. Featuring arcade-quality graphics and delivering a visceral gaming experience in a variety of engaging 3D environments, Barrage will carry a suggested retail price of $29.99.

Barrage offers the ultimate arcade action experience for the gamer who wants to take advantage of their 3D card,” said Eric Johnson, senior vice president, North American marketing, Activision, Inc. “The game’s adrenaline-pumping action coupled with eight player multiplayer capability deliver an incredible arcade-like experience.”

Taking optimal advantage of the technical power of the PC, Barrage delivers high-intensity shoot-‘em-up action, exquisite 3D graphics and multiplayer modes for up to eight players. Developed by Mango Grits, the game has been designed specifically for video cards containing 3DfxÒ Interactive 3D graphics technology and is also compatible with Direct 3D video cards.

"Barrage is a showpiece for the level of fast-paced realism that can be achieved on 3Dfx Voodoo Graphics and Voodoo2 technology," said Greg Ballard, president of 3Dfx Interactive. "Barrage sets a new standard for the industry and, with the power of our hardware, takes 3D gaming to a startling new place."

In a race against the clock, players are thrust into a cockpit of a high-speed hover fighter aircraft in which they must blast away at military targets to activate the gateway into the next world. While searching for the portal to the next level, players fly through five richly detailed environments, including the Grand Canyon, underwater, tunnel, downtown Chicago and a New England prairie. Each level features breathtaking visuals and a new weapon to find and master, from lasers to nuclear arms.
