New Music Product Makes Creating Sheet Music Painless

Music instructors, students and enthusiasts can now quickly and easily create sheet music using a new PC software product called Midisoft Music Press`. Sheet music sales for 1995 were $420-million dollars, according to the National Association of Music Merchants.

The product, unveiled today at Comdex in Las Vegas, is the first music software to offer a revolutionary new point-and-click desktop publishing approach to viewing, editing and creating sheet music. The features that help you accomplish this are real-time transcription and interpretation of music symbols; automatic drum notation; the ability to edit, modify or preview music in real-time; access to a library of popular songs; and high-quality printouts of sheet music.

Midisoft Corp. executives believe the product will be a valuable resource to customers including professional musicians, schools, church choirs and novice musicians.

"Midisoft Music Press(tm) makes producing pieces of music faster and easier than any software product in its category," said Midisoft President and CEO Larry Foster. "Instead of searching through volumes of song books, users can click through the library of songs available with the product, or edit and print MIDI files downloaded from the Internet."

These songs can be printed "as is", or the user can make changes in the composition of the song by dragging and dropping notes or even adding graphics anywhere in the document - just like a word processor.

"Band and choir directors can not only create their own musical scores and print sheets, but they also have the flexibility to modify them at any time and still print out professional results," said Foster. "Plus, you can even drop-in fun graphics like Santas for Christmas songs or a picture of a high school emblem or mascot.

Midisoft Music Press` also includes Music Sense(tm), a technology developed to help everyone, from beginners to pros, create accurate, correctly formatted sheet music.

"The logic built into the program eliminates the need for deep knowledge of music," said Joe Marusak, general business manager of music products at Midisoft. "So even if you can't tell a staccato from a clef sign, the program is designed to help you compose and edit music the right way. For example, if you try to grab a note and drop it on the page where it logically can't go, Midisoft Music Press(tm) will suggest a better option."
